Market-Goer
: Mark Thompson

It was a stormy morning in San Rafael. In fact, I was surprised to see anyone here. Squalls of driving rain were periodically passing over, but the wind was the worst of it. Last night, they were expecting gusts up to 100 m.p.h. along the coast, just over the hills to the west from San Rafael, when a tightly wound low pressure system made landfall.
The eye of the storm came ashore about 4 a.m., from what I could tell from the shriek of the wind outside my room in San Francisco last night.

More than a dozen hardy vendors bright and early this morning anyway, fighting to keep their canopies from blowing away in the gusts. Several dozen shoppers were here, loading up on produce in the driving rain..

I haven't been to this market in nearly five years. Here's my report from June 2003.
